Welcome to the Burt Strand Memorial Food Pantry at The Center Moriches United Methodist Church.
The Bert Strand Food Pantry is a non-profit outreach ministry of Center Moriches United Methodist Church. The church itself has been serving the local community for over 50 years. In 1987, church parishioner, Bert Strand took the initiative to register and create the outreach as an “official food pantry”. His commitment and desire to feeding those in need was second to none. In dedication of his memory, the food pantry was named in his honor. Over the past 30 years, approximately 25,000 people have received the blessing of food from this outreach ministry.
Food is supplied by local food banks such as the Harry Chapin’s L I Cares, parishioners and our community. A team of volunteers’ sorts, organizes, and distributes food to less fortunate individuals and families who are dealing with difficult life circumstances. The heart of the Bert Strand Community Food Pantry is that people should never go hungry, as we believe no one in need should ever be turned away.
Our vision to be the hands and feet of Jesus, we desire to provide a continuous and reliable source of food and assistance to those in need. It is our belief, with the giving of food and a friendly smile, we can show the love of Christ and build trusting relationships with people in our community. The Bert Strand Food Pantry understands it takes more than just food to feed the hungry.
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.” – Matthew 25:35
